작가는 '그것이 그곳에 있다는 이유만으로 나는 가야 한다.'라는 당위 하나로 그저 가는 사람들이라고 했다. 무언가를 바라고 하는 것이 아니라 그저 내가 해야만 할 것이 보이고 느껴지니까 하는 것이다. 나도 모르는 사이 나 자신에게 다가갔던 첫 이벤트는 내가 먹과 화선지를 선택함이다. 아니, 그것이 자연스럽게 나와 결합함이라 해야 맞겠다. 나의 작업이 어떻고, 작업의 의미가 어떻고이기 이전에 나의 본성을 따른 최초의 단계이다. 그 '본성'이라는 것은, 땅이 내게 선사한 가장 '나 다운 것'이면서 잠그지 않은 자물쇠처럼 '나를 떠날 수 있는 자유'를 동시에 제공하는 것이다. 나 자신에게 다가가 나로서 존재함에 감사하고 나를 떠나 그저 무엇으로든 존재함에 또한 늘 감사하며 산다며는! 땅은 언젠가 내게 갑작스러운 이벤트를 또 선사하겠지! 광장에 불쑥 나타나 나를 위해 열연하는 버스커처럼. Somewhere said that the artists are people who just go with the justification, 'I have to go there just because something fateful is there.' They are not hoping for something, they are just doing it because they see and feel what they have to do. The first event that i approached me, without my knowledge, was my choice of ink and korean paper. Or, perhaps it was a natural union with me. It was the first step toward following my true nature, before any discussion of my work or its meaning. That "nature" is the most "me" thing the earth has ever bestowed upon me, yet, like an unlocked lock, thing that simultaneously offers me the "freedom to leave from me." If i live with gratitude for approaching to myself and existing as myself, and for leaving from me and just existing! Perhaps the earth will one day present me with another unexpected event!
